Chapter HistoryDuring the Spring of 1968, three Kappa Brothers met for lunch at a restaurant in Burlington, New Jersey. The Kappa men were Edward Thomas, Sr., George P. Dawson, and William F. Duck. IT should be noted that all three Kappa brothers were initiates of Alpha Iota Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity at Morgan State University, Baltimore, Maryland. The purpose of the luncheon meeting was primarily to reminisce about their student days at Morgan. Many events had occurred in their lives during the eighteen to nineteen years since graduation. Naturally, the discussion led to their involvement or lack of involvement in Kappa Alpha Psi. It was divulged that Brother Thomas was not financial but Brothers Duck and Dawson were financial at the National level with no chapter affiliation. Brother Duck and Brother Dawson had recently retired from the United States Army and had become residents and employed in the local community. Brother Thomas was employed by the Burlington City Board of Education. At that time, there were no alumni chapters south of Trenton. |

It was decided that Brother Duck would contact National Headquarters to obtain a listing of Kappa Brothers located in the Burlington County and Camden County areas. Brother Earl A. Morris, who was then Executive secretary of the Fraternity, provided a list. A review of the list showed that many brothers who resided in the area were active members of the Philadelphia Alumni and Trenton Alumni chapters. These brothers were contacted to determine their interest in establishing a local alumni chapter. A very positive response was received from all those contacted. Subsequently, a picnic was organized to bring together all interested brothers and their families. On a beautiful Sunday afternoon in July 1968, more than twenty Kappa Men and their families assembled at Cooper River Park for a picnic. Page 1 | 2 | 3
